The dreaded “About Me” page… There’s really nothing interesting about me, my past, or what I do. I grew up relatively comfortably due to the sacrifices my parents made for my brother and me during my first 13 years of life in Dallas, Texas. I was involved in soccer, Tae Kwon Do, orchestra, and band (all of which I enjoyed very much and wanted to pursue at one point of my adolescent life). Before entering 8th grade, my family made the move to sunny Los Angeles, California, where I was exposed to more cultures than I knew existed. My teenage influences molded my taste for hip hop music, dance, and anything that involved “hype.”
Upon entering college, I got my first MacBook, and I instantly wanted to learn how to do graphic design. Back in high school, I always had the best Xanga and MySpace pages. My limited knowledge of HTML coding was enough to get my pages to look the way I wanted. I was only limited by the images I could find online. After learning basic Photoshop and Illustrator skills, my entrepreneur mind began to think about starting a clothing line. Back in 2005, BAPE (or A Bathing Ape) was one of the most popular streetwear brands, so I decided to mold my designs around their infamous cartoon characters. I didn’t get as many orders as I thought I would, but I continued to make those big headed avatars because I was good at it.
Fast forward 7 years and many more added responsibilities later, I decided to revive my BAPE character making skills and start this site. Although A Bathing Ape isn’t as popular as it was before, I still enjoy their Baby Milo characters and celebrity designs. I hope to attract other BAPE fans who enjoy seeing stylish cartoon characters, as well as other viewers just looking for a different type of character design format.
